The Health and Safety of our kids, staff and their families are very important to us at SIDC Kids. We work hard to provide a safe and clean environment for the entire SIDC community.

Emergency Prepardness
SIDC conducts routine fire and earthquake drills with staff and children.
Since 1995, the Center has implemented a program focused exclusively on preparedness in the event of an earthquake emergency. The following highlights a few key components of the program:
Out-of-state sister childcare center. Non-effected place where parents can call to get information if local phone lines are down.
The Center retains on site emergency supplies and individualized 72-hour survival kits for every enrolled child, every staff member and several for visiting parents.
All classrooms have large furniture secured and shatterproof film applied to windows.
Snow & Extreme Weather Closures
SIDC Staff will make a reasonable effort to work their usual hours and remain open as possible.
In the case of adverse conditions which affect travel (especially bus service) significantly, or when Seattle Public Schools announce closure, SIDC may be closed, or will most likely:
a) open approximately two hours late and
b) close approximately two hours early - to allow our staff time to get home in daylight.
It is our general policy to follow the same closure schedule as the Seattle Public Schools.
Adverse weather and/or illness epidemics can - at any time - necessitate our operating under "emergency conditions". This means state-regulated ratios (1:4 infants, 1:7 toddlers, and 1:10 preschool and older) may be all we can offer. Children may not have their usual teachers as we juggle staff and subs to provide the best care possible for the majority of children present. If we do close (if Public Schools are closed, METRO is at a virtual standstill OR Plymouth closes the building) we will place a closure update on the classroom voicemail by 6:15 a.m. If possible we will also communicate by e-mail or through the Brightwheel app.
Illness Policy
The health and well-being of children, staff, and families is SIDC's number one priority. We are currently working to update our Illness Policy. Here are some standard practices we use to ward of illness as much as possible:
Lots of discussion on handwashing, hygiene, and how germs are spread
Touch-less check-in/out and communication with teachers
Daily sanitation of toys and all classroom surfaces
